Ellis Alumna Selected for IWLCA All-Metro Region Team

After a breakout junior season with the Haverford College lacrosse team, Katharine FERENCE ’19 was honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) with a selection to the All-Metro Region second team after earning first-team All-Centennial Conference honors. Katharine was one of 272 Division III student athletes the IWLCA chose for the 2022 All-Region teams, deeming her eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team.
A Haverford lacrosse team captain and a fierce attacker who holds two program records for total draw controls, Katharine led the Haverford team through a memorable season this past year that resulted in an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament—the program’s first tournament appearance in 31 years. She believes her time at Ellis, during which she served as a captain for the lacrosse, soccer, and basketball teams, set the stage for her success as a college athlete.

“Ellis granted me the ability to form long-lasting and deep connections with others, and I was able to apply this to my lacrosse team when I stepped on campus at Haverford,” Katharine shares. “We’ve created a team culture at Haverford where I know that, no matter what, my teammates are going to support me, challenge me, and give me everything they have; we truly are a family. Without Ellis, I think that I may have been hesitant to make myself vulnerable or dive headfirst into this kind of team culture. But, because I attended a school like Ellis that celebrates women supporting women, I know that incredible triumphs follow when women commit to working hard not for just themselves, but for each other.”
