Ellis Establishes Edna Jones Endowed Library Chair

The Ellis School is pleased to announce the creation of the Edna Jones Endowed Library Chair. A mark of professional distinction, the Endowed Library Chair has been appointed to School Librarian Sara Brooke.
Endowed using funds raised by the Class of 1970, this year’s fiftieth reunion class, the appointment is in honor of Ellis’ former Head Librarian Edna Jones. Ms. Jones helmed the School’s library from 1963 to 1985 and impacted decades of Ellis students. Known for her sharp wit and sense of humor, her commitment to knowledge and penchant for getting books donated to the library from publishers is revered at Ellis.

Ms. Brooke started at Ellis in 1991 as the Lower School Librarian. Since then, she has been the Department Chair and has also developed literary-focused curricula including Author Day and Ellis’ participation in the PA Young Reader's Choice Award program. She has taught classes in all three divisions and has served on numerous committees.

“It is always a joy to watch alumnae come together in support of Ellis and the beloved faculty members who were meaningful to them,” shared Dr. Carly REED Carstens ’02, Director of Development and Alumnae Engagement. “The stories shared from the Class of 1970 made it clear that Edna Jones was dedicated to the Ellis community, during and after her career at Ellis. I can think of no better first recipient of this Endowed Chair than Sara Brooke who is similarly committed to the School and the growth and well-being of her students.”
