Students Honored with Scholastic Art Awards

Forty Ellis students have been recognized with regional Scholastic Art Awards, winning forty-eight different awards in several categories, including clay, photography, drawing, digital photography, and mixed media. Every year, students in grades 7 to 12 are encouraged to submit their work to the awards which are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious arts and writing recognition program. In March, Ellis’ four Gold Key winners will be considered for national award recognitions.
“We have exceptional faculty and exceptional support for the arts at Ellis,” shared Linda Tonetti Dugan, Visual Arts Department Chair. “I am continually impressed by the high degree of technical and conceptual skills our students possess. It is no surprise Ellis receives as many, if not more, awards than any other school in our region. We are a small but mighty bunch of creative thinkers and problem-solvers at Ellis!”

For almost 100 years, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students through recognition, exhibitions, publications and scholarships. Alumni of the Scholastic Awards have gone on to continue their education at many of the top colleges and universities across the country. Since its founding, the Awards program has identified the early promise of some of our nation’s most exceptional visionaries, including alumni such as Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Philip Pearlstein, Sylvia Plath, and John Updike, all of whom won when they were teens.

Students will be honored at the virtual Regional Awards Celebration on March 4 at 7:00 p.m. You may register to watch the celebration or click here at the time of the awards to join live.
