Elissa McCARTHY Tessier '95 Inducted Into Athletic Hall of Fame

Dr. Elissa McCARTHY Tessier '95 has been inducted into the Ellis Athletic Hall of Fame. Elissa was chosen for her outstanding athletic accomplishments and contributions as a student-athlete during her time at The Ellis School.
At Ellis, Elissa was a three-sport athlete and played field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. She was recognized as the field hockey team’s most valuable player in 1994 and 1995; the basketball team’s most valuable player in 1994; and the lacrosse team’s most valuable player in 1994 and 1995. During her senior year, she was also the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.

Genny Kozusko, former Athletic Director and Ellis coach, shared, “Elissa was a natural athlete. Win or lose, she wanted to play again. She was a role model for the underclassmen, and always had the grit to get back in the game and lead the team."

Following her graduation from Ellis, Elissa played field hockey and lacrosse at Denison University. She was a four-year letter winner, a five-time All-American, and an eight-time All-NCAC honoree. Her career was highlighted by a pair of first-team All-America honors in 1996 and 1998 for field hockey. In 1997, she was named the NCAC’s Offensive Player of the Year, and in 2004, she was named to the prestigious NCAC 20th Year Anniversary Team. She remains the only three-time All-American in Denison field hockey history.

Elissa received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Connecticut and has worked for the Veteran Healthcare Administration since 2006. She currently lives in Connecticut with her husband and three daughters.
