The Ellis Guild Guide to Helping Pittsburgh Through COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Guild, Ellis’ student-run service club, has put together a list of local organizations that are in need of support during this trying time.
We’re focusing Guild’s efforts on raising funds for a number of local organizations that we have worked with in the past. Each of these organizations is facing new challenges as they respond to those in our region who have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. If you’re able, we encourage you to make a donation to one of these organizations through their websites below. You can also advocate for them by sharing their mission with a family member or friend. Even a quick mention on social media could make a difference.

Stay safe and well,

Maggie Ginter-Frankovitch and Adylade Krimmel, Upper School Guild Co-Presidents
The Eighth Grade Middle School Leaders
Rick Malmstrom, Upper School Guild Faculty Advisor
Jeri Simon, Middle School Guild Advisor

If you are able, please consider donating to these Pittsburgh organizations that Ellis students have worked with and supported in the past.

Bethlehem Haven provides meals, housing, and a health and wellness clinic for hundreds of homeless men and women each year. Growing unemployment due to COVID-19 has increased demand for their services and will continue to do so.

SisTers PGH offers outreach, education, advocacy, and emergency housing/shelter for transgender people of Pittsburgh. The SisTers PGH COVID-19 Relief Fund serves the particular vulnerability of Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ+ community, especially those of color facing housing instability, chronic illnesses, and/or compromised immune systems.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) is a coalition of local faith communities focused on providing the necessities of life: food and shelter for those in need, and a support system to work toward recovery from drugs, alcohol, and violence. EECM is committed to staying open and distributing essential housing, meals, and groceries to vulnerable individuals during the COVID-19 situation.

Since 2011, the Education Partnership has served over 130,000 local students with over $17 million worth of supplies in over 100 local schools. Since all of these schools are now closed due to COVID-19, there’s a greatly increased demand for supplies for students doing schoolwork at home.

Although the Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) have temporarily suspended acceptance of new families into residence, they are still providing overnight accommodations, meals, and support for the families currently staying at the Houses. In addition, RMH is working with hospital partners to temporarily re-purpose their program spaces to provide places of respite for healthcare professionals working the frontlines of this pandemic.
