Genna Barge Commits to Davidson College for Field Hockey

Genna Barge, Class of 2021, has committed to play Division I field hockey at Davidson College following her graduation from The Ellis School.
Following Genna’s commitment announcement, Amanda Rose, Head Field Hockey Coach at Ellis, shared the below about Genna and her unwavering dedication to the sport.

“A goalkeeper cannot win a game. She can only save it.” - Hope Solo

As one of the hardest, least rewarded positions on the field, a goalie has to react faster, dive deeper, and be more agile than just about anyone on the field to keep the ball out of the net. Genna Barge, Class of 2021, has met that challenge. With discipline and hard work, she has earned herself an offer and committed to Davidson College, an Atlantic 10 Conference, Division I school.

Growing into the sport of field hockey became Genna’s passion once she joined Ellis’ varsity team her freshman year. Her success began that same year when she was named All-Tournament Goalie at the Belleville Tournament. In 2017, she had 77 saves, 13 shutouts and an 83% save percentage. In 2018, she continued her success with 13 shutouts, 53 saves and an 85.4% save average. This year, Genna increased her save percentage to 87% with a total of 100 saves in the net.

As her coach, I’ve seen Genna put in the work and earn each and every save she makes. She’s trained hard in the off-season, developing and expanding her skill set. She’s grown so much in the past few years; testing out new skills and gaining a better understanding of her own depth. Watching her progression and her determination to understand and accept what does and doesn’t work has turned Genna into an incredibly agile and fierce goalie.

Congratulations, Genna!
