Alumna’s Memory Honored With Endowed Faculty Chair
The Ellis School was honored to establish the Mary Thibadeau Endowed Faculty Chair in Science in memory of Mary THIBADEAU ’02, a beloved alumna, daughter, sister, wife, and friend. Made possible by funds raised from family and friends in memory of Mary, the honor of professional distinction has been bestowed upon Middle School Science Teacher Diane Reckless.
"The Class of 2002 wanted to find a way to honor the memory of our friend and classmate, Mary Thibadeau. Mary was a true renaissance woman, excelling in all subjects. She was smart, funny, loyal, and a true friend,” shared Carly REED Carstens ’02, Director of Development and classmate of Mary’s.
“Mary loved Ellis and we wanted to find a way to give back to the School and remember Mary. We worked with her family and came up with creating the Mary Thibadeau Endowed Chair in Science. We are grateful to everyone who donated towards the Fund. We will miss Mary greatly but are glad to know that her name and memory will continue at Ellis for years to come."
Mary passed away in December 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was a graduate of The Ellis School, the University of Virginia, earning a B.A. with Distinction in Cognitive Science in 2006, and from William & Mary Law School in 2009, where she was honored with the Order of the Coif.
In addition to the endowed chair at Ellis, Mary’s lasting legacy lives on through Mary’s Mix Fund, a nonprofit created in her honor that promotes moral strength in the face of adversity through reminders in public places.
