Chemistry Teacher Recognized With Science Award

Upper School Chemistry Teacher Erica Holtgraver has been recognized with the Society for Analytical Chemists Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) Region 7 Teacher Award. At Ellis, Ms. Holtgraver leads PJAS initiatives by mentoring and guiding students through their scientific experiments from their initial hypotheses to their final presentations.
I am so proud and honored to receive this award, and must reflect credit back to our hard-working students and the administration team who has supported me in this role,” said Ms. Holtgraver. “I'm looking forward to the continued growth of our PJAS program together!”

In PJAS, Ms. Holtgraver challenges student-scientists to stretch themselves intellectually as they explore their interests, investigate complicated questions, and analyze their unique findings. Her own enthusiasm and expertise empower them to seek solutions to complex problems and ultimately present their ideas with confidence at PJAS. Under her leadership this year, sixteen girls were recognized with regional PJAS awards, and eight won first and second place awards at the state-level for their investigations.
