Two Ellis Students Selected for Basketball All-Section Teams
Ellis senior Katharine Ference and sophomore Natalie Jasper were acknowledged for their athletic achievements as two of the five players nominated to the WPIAL Section II Girls Basketball Team this year. After displaying hard work and dedication on the court, the girls were chosen to be recognized out of hundreds of athletes in the area.
All-section teams were selected by section coaches. WPIAL and City League coaches were asked to pick a six-player team in order of preference. When reviewing athletes, coaches take into consideration many different aspects of a player’s performance, not just how many points they’ve scored. The two main criteria they look at are basketball talent and leadership on the court. Six points were awarded for a first-place vote, five for a second, etc. The top five players were selected. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
