Lower School Students Collect Almost 400 Books

After achieving their milestone of reading 400 books, grade 1 girls wondered how they could commemorate their achievement and came up with the idea to do a book drive in the Lower School.
Students wanted to both celebrate and pay it forward, so they made it their goal to collect almost 400 new and gently used books and donate them to The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center on Penn Avenue. The Children’s Home specializes in pediatric care for children who are in transitional care from hospital to home. Grade 1 thought this would be the perfect place to take their books and share the joy of reading. The drive was held in February and March and almost 400 books were delivered over spring break.

Ann Martino wrote about the beginnings of this effort in her March GreenSheet blog post.
