Lauren DRAKE ’16 Joins Wake Forest Research Team for the Summer

Ellis alumna Lauren DRAKE ’16 was accepted to the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine as one of their Summer Scholars. She was assigned to Dr. Emmanuel Opara to work on his project “Bioengineering a bioartificial pancreas”.
The project is working to develop a bioartificial pancreas that will serve as an implant for people with type 1 diabetes. Lauren’s work this summer will focus on how matrix stiffness affects cell viability and function. This work will help the project reach its goal to design a bioartificial structure that mimics that of a native pancreas.
