The Beginning of an Extraordinary Year

On behalf of the Ellis Parent Association (EPA), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2020–2021 school year. It is an extraordinary year and will prove to be a memorable one. As a parent-led organization, we are making a few transitions this year. We anticipate these changes will help us to serve you better and help to create enjoyable memories for you, your family, and our community.
First, it is important to note that we are going virtual! We are prioritizing the education and safety of our daughters, teachers, and staff by moving our connections online. This is an opportunity for us to be creative. I am so thankful to our Room Parents, Division Representatives, and Special Event Chairs for all their long hours and hard work reimagining what the EPA can be this year.

Our general membership meetings can now be found on Zoom. This venue may prove to be more convenient for you than in the past— you can join the meeting from just about anywhere! Please plan to join us for our first meeting on September 10 at noon to learn more about opportunities for how you can join other Ellis parents in planning our events. Your involvement is crucial to our success.

Two upcoming EPA sponsored events coming this fall include a uniform sale and a scavenger hunt. The Paw Shop is moving operations outside and holding a Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a good time to make your life a little easier between washings by picking up some additional gently-used uniforms. Fall Fun Fest has transformed into a Virtual Scavenger Hunt. Mark your calendars for October 17 from noon to 5 p.m. to join The Hunt.

You may be aware that in the past, the EPA has charged an admission fee for our events like Fall Fun Fest. In an effort to be more mindful of our mission and inclusive of all families, the EPA has discontinued these fees. We hope this will be a welcome change for families. Your volunteer time and baked goods will continue to be accepted and appreciated.

My daughter, Roxie, joined the Class of 2029 in kindergarten just four years ago. My husband, Derek, Roxie, and I felt welcomed from the beginning. At our first Back to School Night, Roxie ventured out, hand-in-hand, with a new friend to climb a tree, and Derek and I talked with teachers and other parents about all the events to look forward to that year. Over the coming weeks, months, and years, the Ellis Parent Association looks forward to being part of that memorable magic that welcomes both new and returning families to Ellis this school year.
