Centennial Weekend a smashing success!

Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the Ellis Community, the 2016 Centennial Reunion Weekend was a smashing success! The weekend included a celebration assembly and Laureate panel discussion for students, a Centennial luncheon, and a sold-out Centennial Gala at Carnegie Music Hall. Excitement had been building for weeks as our community came together in preparation for the Centennial celebration. The Gala event on Saturday night crackled with Ellis pride and energy, as 425 people shared in celebration of a century of preparing, empowering, and inspiring girls.
Media coverage of the Centennial Gala can be found on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

The celebration began on Friday, with an assembly in the morning for the thirteen Centennial Laureates. Ellis alumnae, Middle and Upper School students, and special guests were in attendance. The Ellis Centennial Laureates are distinguished alumnae across a half-century. These women represent all Ellis alumnae across the globe who have taken the confidence and talents cultivated through their Ellis education to make deep and lasting footprints in the world. After a Centennial luncheon, girls in grades 7 through 12 attended a special panel discussion where our Laureates answered questions for students. Themes of risk, confidence, sexism, grit, lifelong learning, determination, and girl power dominated the discussion. Thank you to all of our Laureates for sharing their powerful stories and insights.

Saturday’s Centennial Gala was hosted by Sally Wiggin and featured former Heads of School, an amazing performance by the Ellis Glee Club, the moving inauguration of the Laureates, and a look into the future for Ellis. None of this would have been possible without the support of many individuals working together to commemorate this historic year. A heartfelt thank you to the More Power to Her committee, the sponsorship committee, and our sponsors—with a very special thank you to UPMC Health Plan, our Visionary Sponsor, and the Nimick Forbesway Foundation, our Special Anniversary Sponsor. The night would not have been possible without their generous support, and the support of all of our sponsors. The entire weekend—and indeed, this historic Centennial year—was courtesy of the many individuals in our community who are committed to the Ellis mission.

Finally, we are excited to share with you a very special video that was debuted at the Centennial Gala. Now, please enjoy this video that truly captures what an Ellis girl is.
