Ellis Alumna named Boston Globe Political Editor

Ellis graduates continue to lead the way. Shira TOEPLITZ Center ‘01 is the newest political editor for The Boston Globe, one of the most influential and respected newspapers in the United States. Shira, the former politics editor for Roll Call, will take her new post in March. Last year, The Institute of Politics at Harvard recognized Shira’s accomplishments by naming her one of the youngest resident fellows ever.
When asked how Ellis influenced her career, she said that, “Ellis did an incredible job teaching us to think critically, consider information, to formulate questions, and then debate the answers. These skills are incredibly valuable to me as a journalist.”

On The Globe’s Metro Desk, Shira will coordinate coverage for a weekly section in the paper, Capital, the New Hampshire primary, and the presidential race on a day-to-day basis. Shira will also serve as liaison to the DC bureau.

Shira is a seasoned political writer who spent nearly a decade in Washington as a writer and editor. She wrote for Roll Call, Politico, and The Hotline before becoming politics editor at Roll Call, where she oversaw the 2014 election cycle. She has been a regular guest on CNN, FOX, and MSNBC, and has provided political analysis to television news stations including ABC and CBS.

Congratulations, Shira!
