Ellis alumna places 2nd in national voice competition

Soprano and Ellis alumna Lauren K. FREY '05 has won 2nd place nationally in the college/university opera division of 2014 The American Prize in Voice—Friedrich and Virginia Schorr Memorial Award competition. When asked in 2012 how her Ellis art education influenced her, Lauren responded that "Ellis is where I was first exposed to opera. This initial operatic exposure eventually developed into a passion and a Masters of Music degree in voice performance and pedagogy!"
Lauren won The Ellis School performing arts prize in 2005. She attended Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where she studied with Metropolitan Opera soprano Sharon Sweet. Lauren later an interned at the Royal Opera House of London.
 
According to a press release issued by The American Prize organization, Ms. Frey was selected from applications reviewed this summer from all across the United States. The American Prize is a series of new, non-profit, competitions unique in scope and structure, designed to recognize and reward the best performing artists, ensembles and composers in the United States based on submitted recordings. 
 
The American Prize was founded in 2009 and is awarded annually in many areas of the performing arts.
