| | The Ellis School is Pittsburgh’s only age 3 through grade 12 independent school dedicated to the education of girls and young women. At Ellis, the trustees, faculty, staff and administration all have a shared vision of how the Ellis experience guides students in the classroom and beyond.
MISSION STATEMENT Founded in 1916, The Ellis School is dedicated to excellence in the education of girls and young women. Inspired with a passion for learning in and beyond the classroom, students actively pursue the opportunities of a rich and challenging curriculum and develop the wisdom and courage to lead in local and global communities. |
DIVERSITY STATEMENT As an inclusive community, The Ellis School is committed to promoting equity, respecting and honoring our differences, and affirming and embracing our similarities. |
PHILOSOPHY The Ellis School is committed to a tradition of academic excellence as it prepares students for the future.
A challenging program offers students opportunities for intellectual, artistic, physical, and personal growth within an energetic learning environment. Students are inspired to be active, curious, and independent learners who both respect and question tradition and who use information to pose and solve problems through interaction with teachers and peers.
At all levels of the curriculum, girls are encouraged by dedicated faculty and administration to discover their talents and interests, to explore multiple approaches to knowledge, and to develop an enduring passion for learning. As students move through the grades, they are prepared for informed participation in an expanding and complex global community; through computer technology, service projects, and core and elective courses, students gain the tools and knowledge to engage effectively and responsibly with the larger world.
A supportive school community based on cooperation, integrity, and a respect for diversity fosters in students the qualities of leadership, a sense of ethical responsibility to others, and a commitment to active citizenship. Both in the classroom and beyond, girls develop the wisdom and courage to express reasoned ideas and to lead others in the pursuit of shared goals. Through the full process of their education, students gain the habits of mind and character that prepare them for purposeful and reflective lives. |

TECHNOLOGY MISSION Ellis girls will be global technology leaders through their use of emerging technologies that create authentic experiences where they can be the change rather than follow the change.
We will be known for our global partnerships with world—class institutions like Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute and Google.
Our teachers will have opportunities to learn new pedagogical techniques that utilize emerging technologies, become proficient facilitators of blended learning environments, and have access to the best technology tools.
TECHNOLOGY VISION Technology is used as a vehicle to help students explore, create, and express themselves while simultaneously developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students have access to the latest tools that are integrated into the curricula, and independent and guided learning environments are supported by a capable faculty. Communication and collaboration opportunities are informed by a commitment to developing fully engaged digital citizens. |
