| | The Ellis School is proud to be a member of the Online School for Girls. This consortium of independent girls’ schools across the nation is focused first on recognizing that girls learn differently than boys – and inhabit online spaces differently, and THEN on creating the best online experience to address these differences. Designed with an independent school approach, where relationships between students and teachers and among classmates are the foundation for outstanding achievement, there is a rich and dynamic learning experience. There are no more than 20 students in each class, and the faculty members are all from independent girls’ schools across the nation. Ellis has a strong voice in both the development of the programs and the classroom experience, with Academic Dean Dr. Norma Greco sitting on the inaugural Board of the School, Director of Instructional and Informational Technologies Lisa Abel-Palmieri on the current board, and Ellis faculty member Dr. Elizabeth Perry teaching “Art and Code: An Introduction to Programming and Interactivity for Artists”. Guided by current research on how girls learn best, the Online School for Girls has dedicated itself to the following principles:
- Connection: Emphasize connection among participants
- Collaboration: Incorporate collaboration into the learning experience
- Creativity: Inspire and reward creativity
- Application: Engage in real-world problems and applications while having students probe the social and ethical dynamics that define and stretch our global society
Ellis’ participation in the Online School for Girls allows for expanded course offerings, expanded international connections, increased flexibility in scheduling, enhanced learning opportunities, and a targeted online learning experience.
